About John Vamos

John Vamos is founder and CEO of BCS, the foremost Business Coaching organisation in Australia Since 1995, the company has representation throughout Australia, New Zealand and Singapore Developer of BCS' internationally acclaimed methodologies, which have assisted over 3,000 enterprises achieve improved performance John is a member of the International Coaching Federation and sits on the boards of companies in the financial services, management services and hospitality industries.

After completing Macquarie University's law degree course, John entered the financial services industry. His early success in developing selling strategies took MLC’s twenty-seventh ranked division to number one. His achievement earned him a place on the National Board of the Australian Life Writers Association (ALWA) and invitations to speak at their conferences in three countries.

The seeds of Business Coaching Systems started to grow when, in his role on the ALWA's Education Committee, John was asked to source a training program to teach intermediaries how to write a business plan. Never scared to challenge conventional opinion, John refused to recommend any of the programs he found available and as such was asked to create one. So he did, and it worked! It worked so well and so consistently that John decided to make it a vocation - and a business.

John recalls...

"What I realised during this process is that business falls into two parts: those functions that are unique to the business, such as specific products or services, the brand positioning and strategic direction - and those that are not.

"The mistake people make is they assume all of their business is unique, but there are functions of business operation that are common and as such they present huge opportunity for improved performance because, as they are universal, there is also a universal “best way” of doing them.

"The business planning course I conceived separated the two and guided the participants through a process of action steps that, when bolted together, produced an amazingly focused business plan. Armed with that the business was then free to concentrate on the areas that would enhance their competitive advantage!"

To validate coaching methodologies, the University of Technology in Sydney (UTS) has been partnering Business Coaching Systems in 4-year research project aimed at quantifying and qualifying the validity of business coaching. This research will set standards of excellence and best practice for this important but institutionally unregulated field.

John is the developer

behind Business Coaching Systems and has authored all of the BCS' IP modules. He has written a book called, "You don’t think as smart as you are" and is also a frequent contributor to and guest writer in the business press.

He is the author of many tertiary-level programs on strategic thinking, operational excellence, performance management and executive coaching. And most importantly, he has successfully worked in business and has first hand experience on its many facets. John is the executive coach of some of Australia’s most successful people including Ian Elliot, Lang Walker and Les Sharato.
